Villa in Northeastern Crete | Rething & Redesign the Exterior
Σχεδιάζοντας τον εξωτερικό χώρο ενός ευθύγραμμου και μακρόστενου οικοπέδου με σκόρπια στοιχεία. Τοποθετήθηκε λοιπόν ένα συνεχόμενο στοιχείο το οποίο σχηματίζει φυσικές και νοητικές συνδέσεις μεταξύ αυτών, «ο τοίχος».
Η λέξη «τοίχος» είναι συνήθως συνυφασμένη με την νοητική εικόνα μιας δομής φτιαγμένης με υλικά όπως η πέτρα το ξύλο η το τσιμέντο.
Σε αυτή την περίπτωση έγινε μια προσπάθεια να σχεδιαστεί «ο τοίχος» χωρίς κάποια «εξ των προτέρων» χρήση ή νοηματοδότηση.
Ο τοίχος δεν είναι ούτε αποκλειστικά δομικός αλλά ούτε και διακοσμητικός. Δεν χωρίζει αλλά ούτε και ενώνει. Έχει μια σημειολογική μοναδικότητα στον χωροχρόνο (όπως αυτός περιορίζεται στο παρόν οικόπεδο). Σε κάποιους τόπους σε συγκεκριμένες στιγμές της περιήγησης στον οριοθετημένο χώρο, ο τοίχος γίνεται δομικό στοιχείο, σε κάποιους άλλους σε άλλες στιγμές μεταμορφώνεται σε διακοσμητικό στοιχείο. Το ίδιο συμβαίνει και με τους χαρακτηρισμούς “χώρισμα” ή “ένωση”.
" Έτσι σχεδιάστηκε ο “αυτόνομος τοίχος”, μία κατασκευή που δεν έχει κάποια a priori ιδιότητα ή ταυτότητα, αλλά λειτουργεί κατά το δοκούν στο δεδομένο χωροχρονικό πλαίσιο. "
having the task to design the exterior space of a linear field with scattered elements, I attempted to connect them with a continuous element. This element I decided to be “the wall”.
The word “wall” usually refers to a structure built with materials such as wood, stones or concrete. In this project, I attempted to see the element “wall” as not merely structural or decorative but as an autonomous being. Restricted by the laws of physics of our reality, “the wall’s” form has determined boundaries. But that would be all. The secondary laws and norms, implied by our culture are fluid and flexible. I tried to detach my perspective from the established meanings of “the wall”.
For this project “the wall” does not merely separate or include elements, is not merely a structural or decorative element nor has a linear or a predetermined shape. The wall is autonomous in the sense that sometimes and in some places it becomes structural and in others decorative. At some points in time-space is connecting and in some others separating fragments of space.
" Therefore, the “autonomous wall” was designed as a structure that has no a priori identity or function. Its function is as it will in the present point of this specific space-time context. "
